Pleasant View WIF44

PleasantviewThe Pleasant View Women’s Institute was established in 1930. Unfortunately the early records of the Pleasant View Women’s Institute were destroyed by fire only eight years later.  Based in the geographic area of St. Vincent Township, the Institute was highly impacted by the federal government’s annexation of land to create the AFV Range near Meaford in 1942. Many members moved outside of the area of the Pleasant View Women’s Institute, and membership fell to only ten members. Fortunately, the women stayed strong and the Institute grew. The Institute has contributed to their community through their work with the Salvation Army and the Red Cross. They also participated in various quilt fundraising auctions, donated to the Meaford Hospital and to the local food bank. The Pleasant View Women’s Institute disbanded in 1992.
