Holstein WIF82

Holstein 1From 1903 to 2008, the Holstein Women’s Institute served the Village of Holstein, Ontario and surrounding area. Though early records cannot be found it is assumed that the Holstein Women’s Institute focused mainly on homemaking and domestic science until the outbreak of the First World War, at which point they likely worked with the Red Cross, as many branches did, in providing comfort boxes for the soldiers and relief efforts for European civilians. Between the wars, the Holstein Women’s Institute took charge of caring for the War Memorial and grounds. The group was also donated money and goods to many projects including local libraries, local schools, and agricultural fairs.  In 2008, due to declining membership, the group took a vote and decided to disband, bringing to a close a 95 year history.
