Reading Room
The Reading Room is a designated space where researchers can access our archival collection and research services. The Reading Room is divided into two sections - the Non-circulating area, which is self-serve, and the Primary area where staff retrieve the original documents from our storage area.
Our staff is happy to answer any questions you may have or to point you in the right direction if you are just starting your research.
Some of the services available include photocopiers, microfilm/fiche reader/printers, and digital photographic reproductions. We also offer research services to those patrons who are unable to visit Grey Roots in person. Requests should have a link to Grey County in some way. Please contact us for more information on this service.
Ontario celebrates Archives Awareness Week, the first full week in April, every year. In 2008, Grey Roots is offering FREE admission to the Reading Room for researchers. Archivist led behind-the-scenes tours will leave the Reading Room daily at 2:00pm. This is your chance to see exciting gems from our collection. Be sure to ask for your free Archives Awareness Kit full of goodies. Special children's kits are also available.
Before your visit, you may wish to check out Library and Archives Canada's Using Archives: A Practical Guide for Researchers, which explains how to best use archives for your research.
