Behind the Scenes
![]()
Much more activity happens behind-the-scenes in a museum than you may imagine. Hours are spent accessioning, cataloguing and conserving each artefact in our collection. "Accessioning" means that the legal ownership for each object is transferred to the museum by the method of a Deed of Gift.
The cataloguing process records the history, dimensions, condition, donor information, location, and any additional information for each object; This information is entered in a specialized museum database, and then used to interpret the object's story in exhibits and/or by researchers.
An accession number and object I.D. number are applied to each object to aid in identification, and photographs of each artefact are taken to record condition and entered into the database. By this process the history of Grey County, our history, is preserved for future generations to learn from and enjoy.
