Oxenden and Lake Charles WIF30

Oxenden and Lake CharlesThe Oxenden Women’s Institute was organized at a meeting held at the United Church in January of 1930. After several years the Lake Charles Branch amalgamated with the Oxenden Institute to form the Oxenden-Lake Charles Women’s Institute. The group later changed their name to Grandview in 1963. Among the activities of the group was the upkeep and maintenance of the Oxenden cemetery, until it was taken over by the Township of Keppel. The Institute also donated financially to the Wiarton Hospital and the Wiarton Hospital’s Women’s Auxiliary. Each year, members of the Institute participated in annual trip to a destination in Ontario (for example Niagara Falls, Wingham, etc.). The Institute disbanded in 2000.
