Shallow Lake WIF41
The beginnings of the Shallow Lake Women’s Institute are very vague. It seems they were very active during the First World War, but disbanded shortly thereafter in 1919. The group reorganized in 1925. The Institute participated in charity fund raising drives for CNIB, Canadian Cancer Society, March of Dimes, Red Cross, Salvation Army, and CMHA. They also worked closely with members of the local Legion Branch with the upkeep of the baseball fields. They also supplied a piano, tablecloths, and dishes for a local church. The group also donated prizes for public speaking contests at the local school, and assisted at the hospital. The group disbanded in 1991.
