For the Boys

Life on the Homefront

Offered from September 17 to November 9, 2007.

Program Length: 2 hours

For the Boys: Life on the HomefrontFor the Boys: Life on the Homefront examines life in Canada and specifically Grey County when the men went off to war. It explores the lifestyle changes that came about due to the shortage of men and looks at how women rose to meet the challenge. It teaches students about the war effort and how citizens did their bit to help fight for their country from their own homes. This Grey Roots original exhibit gives students a better understanding of how people coped during these difficult and stressful times.

This program is designed with the secondary school student in mind but has appeal to the younger grades as well. Older students will receive a brief introduction to the exhibit and then be given the opportunity to explore the gallery on their own. A self discovery sheet will assist and encourage students to take a deeper look at this important era in Canadian and Grey County history. We have a selection of films available to enhance learning of this subject matter. Please contact us so that we can discuss and develop a program that best suits your students’ needs.

This program will help to enhance Remembrance Day observances with your class.
